CERAFILTEC is delivering its technology solution to three mining sites in the Caucasus region. The project execution is in partnership with a global engineering and construction company.
The project has started already in February this year. Over the past 7 months the engineering team of CERAFILTEC finalized a detailed project development phase, which included an evaluation of previous site tests and conventional process solutions. In-house sample filtration tests with different ceramic membranes were made, and an initial technology training was held for the mine owner & operator as well as the project execution partner.
As a conclusion of the project development, CERAFILTEC was able to provide an optimized customized solution with key focus on:
- Removal of high concentrations of copper, zinc, cadmium, selenium, iron and manganese from the mining discharge water using the ceramic flat sheet membrane technology
- Sludge waste minimization, with reduction of discharge costs
- Most compact plant layout as a prefabricated containerized turn key solution
The project execution started at the beginning of September 2019, with delivery time frame for the treatment plants by end of 2019. Due to the comprehensive groundwork of CERAFILTEC during the project development phase, it is possible to fast track the project execution to a few months.
The project execution is managed directly from the CERAFILTEC head office in Germany.
End of last year, CERAFILTEC provided its application know-how and module equipment for a 9,600 mÂł/d nickel mining discharge water project in Turkey. This project as well as the new mining sites in Caucasus further highlight the unparalleled advantages of ceramic flat sheet membrane technology – combined with the right engineering solution – to solve the water challenges in the mining sector. The CERAFILTEC solutions are designed to meet regulatory standards, maximize water re-use (if desired) with the typical 95 – 99% recovery rates, low sludge volumes, and to optimize the project economics.Â
